We are honoured to present Weaving Dew, a solo exhibition showcasing the latest works of Sawaya Yuko at the TOBI Art Fair.
Sawaya’s vessels are distinguished by a decorative language in which delicate mesh-like motifs envelop their surfaces. While drawing inspiration from knitting patterns, she reimagines them through the traditional itchin slip-trailing technique—her artistry extending far beyond mere visual resemblance.
Her signature subtle gradations of tone, applied in layers, are inspired by memories of her native landscapes—distant mountains and boundless sea that shift in colour with the passage of time, across seasons and even within a single day. These transformations in nature occur in an instant yet continue in an unbroken flow. Within that same flow of time, human life unfolds, filled with daily activities, encounters, and farewells.
Sawaya translates these fleeting yet profound experiences into her work, rendering them slowly and meticulously in slip, much like spinning and braiding threads, offering a gentle counterpoint to the transience they embody.
For this occasion, Sawaya presents her most ambitious works to date, and we warmly invite you to experience them in person.
